Memories of the Hillclimb and the Neighborhood

I remember walking the hillclimb as a little kid (about 1950) and being very careful not to alert the real, live billy goat who was tied near the trail. Also an old dilapidated house near Charlestown and 35th Ave was the site of a small, dark store that sold great candy. It was run by an ancient black man with grey, blind eyes. As kids we loved his candy. In the winter the area north and west of Charlestown and 36th used to fill with water and we could float a raft on it. — Kathy Whelan
